CB Malayalam is the all-time favorite popular director in Malayalam cinema. He has made more than forty films over a period of four decades. Even today, his films attract many fans because they portray the complexities and emotions of family and human relationships in his unique style. Most of his films end with the audience in tears.
CB Malail was speaking at The Q Studio about Malayalam stars Mammootty and Mohanlal and how they view cinema.

“I see Mammootty as a meticulous actor. Mammootty gets prepared early. If we have a discussion, he’s ready. From the very beginning of the story, he feels curious about it and needs to know everything. Mammootty is very organized about his next project in terms of career planning.

We used to say about Mammootty that he thinks about the next film, not the one he’s currently doing. He is the one who starts thinking about what the next film will be. So, Mammootty is a person who watches films passionately. But Lal (Mohanlal) doesn’t care about that. Lal comes and goes casually. Perhaps Lal is internally invested, but we don’t feel his process in the same way. He (Malail) said that Lal enjoys the film and approaches it on all levels.”

He said that, to give an example, Mohanlal is someone who fully embraces a character, and we won’t have to remind him of anything later. Mammootty cited August 1 and added that he had done such an exciting film.

Among his (CB Malail’s) films are The Crown, Thaniyavarthanam, Akashadoothu, Bharatham, Summer in Bethlehem, Colours of Love, Beti Appontim. Mohanlal’s first National Award was for his film Bharatham.
Highlight: Sibi Malayil stated that Mammootty thinks about the next film, whereas Mohanlal won’t need to be reminded of anything.
